Art on the Porches 2015 will be June 20th on Ruskin Avenue in the historic neighborhood of Strathmore. This year’s festival will be our 16th annual and has become a staple of the arts community in the City of Syracuse. Last year Art on the Porches saw crowds of nearly 3,000 people come out to people to engage with over 30 local artists, listen to nine bands and eat delicious food

With just over 5 days to go to this years Art On The Porches we are delighted to reveal the artists who will be exhibiting on the various porches and lawns of Ruskin Ave. We have old favorites such as Elizabeth Andrews and Jonas Sickler, as well as many new artists showing and selling their work this year. We are delighted to announce this year’s Art On The Porches poster competition winner. The winning poster was designed by Clare Rauch. You will be able to see the poster around Syracuse over the next few weeks and of course it will be featured at the festival itself. Congratulations Clare!
We have three artists left to reveal for this years Art On The Porches musical line up before we can announce the full schedule so here we go….
First off we have the Kambuyu Marimba Ensemble!
We asked Sue Boyle, the creator of Art On The Porches, to share her personal history of the event right back from when it all started in 1999! Continuing with the announcement of our musical performers are Mark Nanni and The Intention! A Swingin’ hot zydeco style jazz trio, The Intention can be found most thursday nights at Phoebe’s (across from Syracuse stage) . Drummer Josh Dekaney, bassist Max McKee, and pianist, accordionist & vocalist Mark Nanni will get you movin’!
We only have a few more musicians to announce so without further ado here are the next two!
First we have the the Black Squirrels!
The Black Squirrels set their anchor in the traditional fiddle tunes of Irish, English, French Canadian, and American descent, and tilt their sails to a variety of whimsical influences. The repertoire includes both instrumental contra dance tunes (jigs, reels, waltzes, etc.) and songs performed in vocal harmony in classic string band style.
Now for some more performers at this years Art On The Porches! We will have Zeke Leonard! Zeke is a well known professor at SU – also a tinkerer ,inventor and repurposer of found items. He recently recreated Luigi Russolo’s ”Intonarumori” – the fabled acoustic noise-generating devices from 1913 for the world renowned Kronos Quartet.
